3rd May | Banchhaya Village, Alipurduar District:

A five-day Tamang Tribal Language and Dhamphu Workshop concluded successfully at Banchhaya Village, bringing together 38 local artists in a celebration of culture, rhythm, and tradition. The workshop resulted in the creation of two traditional dances and three original songs, all rooted in the rich heritage of the Tamang community.

The program was more than just a cultural event — it became a platform for local empowerment and preservation of identity. Through this workshop, community members revived the traditional Dhamphu music, which had been slowly fading away, and shared their ancestral language with younger generations. The involvement of local youth ensured that these traditions continue to live vibrantly in the years ahead.

Banchhaya Village, located in the scenic Alipurduar District, is being developed as an emerging tourist destination with the support of the district administration. With initiatives like this workshop, culture and tourism come together — offering travelers an authentic experience of the region’s music, art, and lifestyle while providing new income and recognition opportunities for local artists.

Jointly organized by The Art of Living - YLTP and Yugantar Pariwar, the workshop marked a meaningful step toward reviving indigenous culture and making it a central part of the village’s identity. For the people of Banchhaya, this event was not only a cultural revival but also a step toward sustainable community development through tourism.
