Apiculture Training Empowers Banachaya Basti Villagers

A two-day Apiculture (Bee Keeping) Training was successfully conducted at Banachaya Basti on 14th and 15th January 2026. The training was organized by the District Horticulture Department, Alipurduar District, with the aim of creating awareness and practical skills in bee keeping among the local villagers.
Around 50 villagers from Banchaya Basti actively participated in the program. The training was held in the presence of Mr. Dipak Ghosh, District Horticulture Officer, Dr. Satish Subba, Sub-Divisional Horticulture Officer, Mr. Amlan Bhattacharya, ADE (Plant Protection), Alipurduar District, and renowned Apiculture Expert Mr. Mulender Choudhry, who shared valuable knowledge on scientific bee keeping and honey production.
The sessions highlighted the multiple benefits of apiculture, including six major honey-related advantages, making it a highly beneficial livelihood option. Given its rich natural flora and favorable climate, Banchaya Basti was identified as an ideal location for apiculture, offering strong potential for sustainable income generation.
The training was made possible through the initiatives of Mani Lama, Nimkma Lama, Ashok Lama, and Anuradha Lama, whose efforts were instrumental in organizing the program. Mr. Ramkumar Lama shared that the main objective of the training was to create alternative livelihood opportunities for the villagers through apiculture.
The villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to District Magistrate Madam R. Vimala, IAS, for arranging this training along with other agricultural and horticulture-related development programs in Banachaya Basti. The community welcomed this opportunity with great enthusiasm and hope for a better and self-reliant future.
